Jitu Weusi, one of the founders of The East, recounts why they started a music program at The East. Then, saxophonist James Spaulding recalls how the first, and only, record was made for The East record label. His group consisted of himself, Michael Ridley on trumpet, Earl McIntyre on bass trombone, Larry Ridley on bass, Lenny White on drums, and Majatu Fraser on congas. You can hear some of the A side of the 45, "Uhuru Sasa" under the audio of James Spaulding.
