City of Memory is an online community map of personal stories and memories organized on a physical geographical map of New York City.


On the top bar of the Web site, click "Add a Story." Fill out the form with your story's information and then click "Submit."


No, there is no registration for City of Memory. When you upload a story, you can fill in your contact info.

You can also create links to external media files rather than upload them. In this case, you can use any file type you like. A free tool for converting media formats can be found here.


By location: Navigate the map to where the story occurred, then zoom in until you can see the story that you are looking for.
By title: type a part of or the whole name into the search bar, then click "Search."

Pictures: any amount
You can also upload a combination of pictures and sound, or video and sound.


Any story that relates to the history and personality of New York is ideal for this narrative map. Stories of people, events, and places that contribute to describing NYC's overall history are perfect candidates to add to the site.
All entries will be reviewed and may be deleted for inappropriate or crude content.


Yes! If you don't have any media to accompany your story, a default icon will be used to represent it on the map, and everything else will function normally.


The format of your video is not compatible with City of Memory's video converter. We recommend that you convert your videos to an acceptable format (see media types). If you need a program to transform video formats, we suggest FFMPEGX.


No. City of Memory is dedicated to New York City.

They must be shorter than 10 minutes, and smaller than 100 mb.


Is there a fee to use City of Memory?

No.


Probably forever, unless the story is deemed inappropriate.

RSS is a web format that allows sites to automatically send updates to the people who are interested in them.
To start receiving the City of Memory RSS feed, click the orange "Subscribe to RSS feeder" button on the bottom of the map page.
To recieve updates from City of Memory, you must have a RSS reading service such as My Yahoo! or Google Reader.


You cannot bookmark a story, but you can write down it's name and search for it later.
